Marking Your Spot in Cyberspace. – 3 Keys To Making Your Site Memorable!

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

As significate as landing on the moon was, your spot in cyberspace can be just as memorable. I find that the better looking and working a site is then the more it makes me want to come back and use it. When a person first lands on your website they need to be amazed at not only the design but the content and what you offer. Each part of your website should leave a mark in the visitors mind and make them want to stop in every time they jump online. Just same way you want to stop in at the local shops down the street, your website should pull and draw users in.

I know, I know. The question has just popped into your head. How do You Make Your Site Draw Visitors In? Good Question. Let me know when you have the answer(as I head towards the exit). Ok, I am not going to leave you high and dry like that. I like you and am going to try to help you out. I know, I am a nice guy.

Well there are a few ways to do this. To make a great site I believe there are three main keys.

1. Your Design.
2. Your Content.
3. How Your Site Works

No you might have all three keys already, which is great for you but bad for me as you are probably going to stop reading any second now. For the rest of you who stuck with me you probably have at least One of the Three Keys above. The other two aren’t that hard to get.

The reason I list these keys above in the order I did is because this is how a visitor is going to evaluate your website. First they will see the design before anything(including the content or how the site works). So you must make sure the design is fluid, has a good color combination as well as the text is easy to read. Also make sure the navigation is easy to reach(unless you don’t want them to check out any other parts of your site).

Once the design pulls them in then they will be looking at your content to see if it interests them. It probably does as if it didn’t they likely wouldn’t have came to your website in the first place. Keeping your content updated will help keep their interest and will make them start clicking around your site. This is what you want them to do and is especially important if you have a store on your website. The longer they stay on your site the better chance you have of them engaging in on activities (such as a message board) or purchasing from your store.

Now you can see how these two things line up for the last part. If your site doesn’t work properly then the first two keys(design and content) will be for absolutely nothing. If your subpages don’t load quickly, if links don’t work and if errors pop up all over the site then you are going to be in big trouble. Visitors will leave your site quicker then a speeding bullet. So make sure your site works properly.

Remember having a great design, content and a site that works is very easy. The tricky part is getting visitors to your website, so once you get them there you definitely don’t want to loose them. Cause if they leave all your effort will have been for not.

Affiliate Marketing Best Days Ahead

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Crossing the Line – the line between performance and traditional advertising has been breached and the best days of affiliate marketing are ahead.

By Greg Shepard

Years before the NASDAQ tanked and banner advertising died, e-commerce pioneers like Amazon.com and CDNow began partnering with topic-centric websites to drive revenues, paying a commission for each sale referred. The practice spread quickly and became known as “affiliate marketing.” By early 1999, Forrester Research proclaimed “affiliate programs” as the Web’s most effective traffic-driving technique – almost twice as effective as banner advertising.

Consider that by September 1999, more than three years after Amazon launched, there were over 1,000 merchants offering affiliate programs. And by 2000, Amazon’s Associates Program had grown to over 500,000 affiliates. What Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos started as a polite conversation had grown into an entirely new industry, bringing with it affiliate networks, directories, newsletters and a variety of consultants. Other innovations followed and affiliate marketing is now an integral part of the Web’s composition. It’s also now widely heralded as the Web’s most cost effective marketing vehicle.

Still, as affiliate marketing evolved, issues with the model have been exposed. The affiliate community needs to remember that affiliate marketing is not about generating cheap advertising, but developing profitable strategic relationships.

But now there is a way for merchants to now offer a win-win where both merchants and affiliates have a vested interest. Improving technologies now make it possible for the formerly CPS, CPA, CPL performance programs and the CPM, CPC, and flat advertising models to unify creating a new hybrid that I call the CPP (Cost-Plus-Performance) model.

The CPP combines a paid campaign with a performance campaign and offers the best of both worlds. I see this as the future of affiliate marketing, a wide-open world of performance and payment where the CPP takes inventory lost to Google’s AdSense and advertisers back. The result is a whole new world of opportunities for merchants, affiliate managers and affiliates.

The hybrid CPP is converting former CPM, CPC advocates into affiliate marketing believers. For many top websites, affiliate marketing now represents a chance to loosen the grip of pay-per-click search engines and costly advertising. The most difficult obstacle in affiliate marketing is finding good affiliates with traffic. If a site sells traffic then they must have it, and if you negotiate a Cost-Plus-Performance payout valuable opportunities begin to open up.

Merchants are also realizing that affiliates need better tools as well. Technologies such as data-feeds, site and shopping cart abandonment (exit traffic) promise to allow merchants, who are also affiliates, to increase EPC and EPM numbers without compromising the visitors experience, thereby improving monetization. By simply offering additional products and/or service offers at or after the point of sale, merchants can add revenue without diluting the sales process.

It’s becoming clear to merchants, affiliate managers and affiliates that the line between performance and traditional advertising has been breached.

It started with Google’s entry into the market. Google’s AdSense captured valuable affiliate program inventory, which caused the flexible affiliate marketers to evolve again. The industry’s response was to tangle with the paid advertising side of the market. Google’s method is to pay out for ad space – the same ad space that was used by affiliate marketers. That limits available inventory and changes the Web publisher’s expectations.

Some affiliate marketers using AdSense end up to cannibalizing their own market. Why? To get guaranteed income from traffic. If you pay for traffic, you’re guaranteed to get it. The merchants get guaranteed traffic and the affiliates get guaranteed revenue from traffic. However, this presents a problem. Traditional advertising places the risk on the merchants, while performance places the risk on the affiliate. In either case only one has a vested interest in the campaign.

It’s clear from a handful of recent studies and reports that marketers are frustrated with the current process.

In a survey of 135 senior-level marketers a recent study found that while 60 percent of respondents said that defining, measuring and taking action on ROI is important, only 20 percent are satisfied with their ability to do so. In addition, 73 percent reported a lack of confidence in their ability to understand the sales impact of a campaign.

The study, conducted by Marketing Management Analytics (MMA), the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), and Forrester Research in April 2005, was presented in July at ANA’s 2005 Marketing Accountability Forum.

Also this summer, a MediaLife’s media buyer survey quantified what most already suspected: media buyers think that about only half of media reps know what the heck they’re doing (via MediaBuyerPlanner.com). A significant minority of the buyers – about one in six – have such a low opinion of representatives that they said only 10 or 20 percent are useful.

Complaints centered, unsurprisingly, on time wasting, both in the form of over-contacting and proving ill prepared when conversations do take place. Another big complaint proved to be overly hard selling, with some reps seeming to believe that repetition or browbeating may succeed in getting a property on the buy where the numbers won’t.

Half of the buyers said they agree with the statement that the rep problem was “no big deal. Sure, they’re annoying sometimes, but I’m sure they find me equally so. It’s how the industry is set up.” About 45 percent agreed instead that they are “a necessary evil. Most are okay, but there are a few really obnoxious ones I hate doing business with.”

Even with all the issues, the good news is that the affiliate community is still evolving. Organic search is becoming more competitive. CPM rates are going up. Paid search is becoming cost prohibitive and the need for cost effective online inventory is becoming stronger, causing the affiliate space to grow at ever increasing rates. As merchants, affiliate managers and affiliates become even more interwoven, the friction decreases and new forms of integration and aggregation are made possible.

I see it this way – the race is on! In the last year the number of merchants offering affiliate programs has more than quadrupled. Literally, millions of websites now participate as affiliates – from personal homepages at Geocities and Homestead to Fortune 500 companies. And now, more often then not, merchants with affiliate programs are also affiliates.

Whether termed affiliate marketing, collaborative commerce, revenue sharing or syndicated selling, the affiliate space leads the way in the ever changing landscape of online marketing and has become the Web’s fastest, simplest and most cost effective marketing vehicle.

As both merchants and affiliates continue to recognize the power of change, affiliate marketing’s best days are yet to come. In a few short years, affiliate marketing looks to become the tail that wags the dog – controlling the majority of the adverting and marketing dollars. Despite the less then impressive advancements in the advertising world and hype, affiliate marketing stays true to its origins as a better way of connecting buyers and sellers and rewarding those that facilitate those relationships.

Zimmer Hip Recall Is Sad News

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Alot of individuals who received durom hip cup applied in their hip replacement surgical operations are encountering that there are complications that far surpass the conventional expectations for recovery. These patients are feeling a lot of excess anguish for longer periods of time, expecting revision surgical procedures and increased medical expenses, and losing income by being unable to work at their normal occupations. Although Zimmer Holdings, Inc. is postulating that that their implant could never be imperfect and not to blame for the faulty surgical procedures, many implant recipients are filing lawsuits against them and getting settlements.

These hurting unfortunate people definitely merit some assistance and restitution which is the main reason product liability attorneys are supporting them by telling them to file a lawsuit. dorum cup has been settling up with these claims. However, even if the money they are being offered by all standards seems reasonable, in numerous cases patients are deciding too fast and without provision or allowance being made for repeat problems if pain returns. If they don’t hold off and wait, to find out what cases are actually going to be worth, individuals might find themselves paying thousands of dollars out of their own funds when further complications arise.

For anyone who realizes they probably have a claim against Zimmer may consider an investigation into it. If you imagine you may qualify, you can visit a lawyer to find out for sure. Try to find a lawfirm that covers across the nation and that focuses primarily on litigation against malfunctioning medical devices. This law firm has done the extra work and setup a special division to uncover the details and take care of the claims against Zimmer and win substantial settlements for their clients.

If your orthopedic physician informs you that you will need to undergo a revision surgical process to repair your Zimmer Durom hip replacement device, get in touch with an lawyer as soon as humanly possible.

As soon as attorney figures out that you havea viable case, be prepared to wait in order to get the best settlement that your lawyer will be able to negotiate for you. Heed the good advice that your attorney gives to you and do not get impatient and demand a quick timeframe for restitution. You may end up losing a lot of money if you arent willing to be patient.

Success Through Systematic Dreaming And Taking Action

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Some people love to dream and plan. They may also take the occasional half-hearted action. They will probably fail to achieve their dreams.

However, they are much further along the road than those who no longer dream or plan and who have settled for a boring but comfortable existence.

The difference between dreaming and taking action is not as clear cut as we might think. Perhaps some kinds of action are just less obvious than others. Perhaps regular dreaming is a kind of action which is more powerful than we realize.

Others love to take obvious action in pursuit of their dreams. They are itching to start moving and getting on with things.

They may have a better chance of success than those who are just dreamers because they may accidentally take the right actions or, at least, they will have the opportunity to learn from their mistakes!

However, they often fail for lack of forethought and planning and exhaust themselves in a flurry of activity as they busy themselves with second priority projects and even totally unnecessary tasks.

It makes sense, then, to dream and list our priorities and to take action as well.

Action does not always mean physical action. It could even refer to dreaming as we have seen. If you are learning something new, you are taking action.

Learning a skill is taking action even though there may be no obvious signs of physical action.

One bonus of learning a skill is that you are usually keen to take further action to put your new skill into practice to test your powers.

Some people take the view that learning or taking in information does not require effort or action. It does.

Even dreaming requires effort especially when it seems the dreams are not coming true.

Sitting through long hours in a seminar takes considerable effort. I have great respect for those who are often contemptuously called ’seminar junkies’.

At least they are taking the action of attending a seminar which may well be many miles away. Such attendance is often necessary to learn new skills and to build new confidence.

Most of the abundance teachers tell us to imagine vividly that we have achieved our goals as soon as we wake up and just before we fall asleep. We need to day dream regularly.

This takes an effort. It means we must exercise our will power to focus on our dreams daily. This, too, is a kind of action.

If you want to learn the skill of a copywriter, you need to dream daily about the benefits of being a skilled or even semi-skilled copywriter.

You then need to take the more obvious action necessary to study the work of the great copywriters and to write out their copy so that you can begin to think as they think.

You then need to actually write copy for your own products or the products of others. You need to apply your skill.

The moment you started studying the work of copy writers you became a man or woman of action. However, you could argue that when you started dreaming every day about being a copy writer you were also taking some kind of action.

Analyzing exactly what is and what isn’t action as opposed to planning and dreaming may well be another way of avoiding action! I hope I am not doing that in this article!

Perhaps I had better shut up and we can both get on with some useful dreaming or some useful action. I hope I haven’t confused you too much to do either!

So long as we both dream regularly and systematically and take clear, obvious action to achieve our dreams, we won’t go far wrong.

Choosing The Wrong Server Will Literally Make Or Break You

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Choosing the right web server will be one of the most important decisions you will ever make with your online business. Why? Because the web server you choose will literally make or break your online business.

Today I am going to talk about two types of servers, one is Virtual Web Hosting and the other is Virtual Private Servers.

Over the last couple of years Virtual Web Hosting has been the only way to go when choosing a web server. One of the reasons that Virtual Web Hosting became so popular was because they supported the necessary files and allowed you to have more freedom than other conventional web hosts. But now you can have more freedom than ever before with Virtual Private Servers. Moreover, Virtual Private Servers should not be confused with Virtual Hosts, because they are completely different.

Before I go any further I must explain what the difference is between a Virtual Host and a Virtual Private Server, so that you can fully understand. In this article I will also go over the advantages and disadvantages of both types of servers, to help you decide which is right for you and your business. Let’s get started with Virtual Hosting.

Virtual Hosting

Virtual Hosting is also known as Shared Web Hosting, where you are sharing the physical server and a single set of software applications with other users. Virtual Hosting has been extremely popular in the past for it’s fast deployment, strong resources, and most importantly for having a very reasonable price. Another advantage to Virtual Hosting is that you have a powerful, reliable, and professionally managed server without having to have advanced technical skills, making it ideal for an individual, small business, or even a beginner webmaster.

The disadvantage of Virtual Hosting is that you are sharing the server with other users, which are configured and controlled by an administrator, not you. So basically you have your hands tied behind your back, because you have to contact the administrator everytime you have to adjust or change your configuration settings. Even if you managed to get a hold of the administrator, they may not fulfill your request. It’s up to them, they are the administrator. If you were the administrator you wouldn’t have these limitations and would have full control.

Virtual Private Servers

Virtual Private Servers are a hot topic these days and for a good reason. Before I get into the advantages of a Virtual Private Server, let explain what it is first. A Virtual Private Server is a single server that is partitioned at the root into multiple dedicated servers. This allows you to share the cost of the network connectivity, hardware, and system maintenance with other hosting customers, while maintaining your flexibility and freedom.

The real advantage of Virtual Private Servers is that they allow you to have complete control and they have the security advantages of a dedicated server at the fraction of the cost. You have access to the virtual root, Telnet, web configuration files, and full CGI-BIN access. I can’t forget to mention that you also have access to your password, aliases file, and sendmail configuaration file. For many reasons you can see that a Virtual Private Server is an excellent solution for small to medium size businesses that have an increasingly complex needs.

Moreover, there is one disadvantage with Virtual Private Servers, you need to have some program knowledge to control and configure the settings. Sounds overwhelming, most businesses that offer Virtual Private Servers have very detailed manuals making them easier to configure and control no matter what your program level is.

Which one is right for you? Well, that all depends on you and the size of your network.

If you have or plan on having just one web site and have absolutely no programing knowledge, then Virtual Hosting is the recommended and economical way for you to go. A Virtual Host can cost anywhere from $20 – $50 a month for an account, rather than a $100 or more for a Virtual Private Server.

On the other hand, if you have a larger network that requires multiple web sites, like ours, and you have some programing knowledge, then a Virtual Private Server is ideal for you. You can host up to 50 web sites on a Virtual Private Server account, instead of having multiple Virtual Hosting accounts, which is not as economical.

When it comes time to get a web server, make sure that the server fits your needs and that it supports the essential software for a prosperous online business.

Host Wars! The Battle of Space (Disk Space)

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Just recently, I received an email from one of the twenty hosting companies that I’m affiliated with and before I even opened it I knew what it was going to say. Pretty much the same thing that the last five emails from other hosting companies have said. “Dear Affiliate, we’re happy to announce that we’ve included more disk space to our basic hosting plans which now offer over 20,000 Mb (mega-bytes) of disk/storage space to your customers.” And the Hosting companies battle on!

Now don’t get me wrong, from a marketing and advertising viewpoint, offering my customer 20,000 Mb of disk space instead of 5 or 10 thousand is something that just “sweetens the pot.” Why not have extra space? Sometimes more is better. But unless you’re the only person on an island with an internet connection and a hosting account thats going to be used by a small third world nation, or unless you’re Ebay (TM), I don’t see where the average company, even with a website that has 100 or more pages with many graphics, is even going to come close to using 20,000 Mb of disk/storage space per month.

My modestly small website wbwebhosts dot com has twelve pages that get a total of around 200 page hits a day. Last time I checked I was averaging 2 Mb of disk/storage usage per month. Naturally, I’m sure that if everybody who was hosted with a certain company was somehow able to use 20,000 Mb of disk each month, the hosting company would run out of server space.

But thats OK though! Advertising all that storage space is a “Hook” to lure people in. Nothing wrong with that. As I said above it’s better to have too much storage space then not enough. But look for other things that the company offers they may set them apart from other web hosting services. Is the set-up and Domain free? Where are there servers located? C-panel control (very easy control panel for beginners)? Price per month? Transfer (monthly traffic allowed)?

Well the Host wars will continue! Maybe by this time next year they’ll be offering 30,000 Mb to attract new customers. To most unsuspecting people this will seem like a great deal and will be happy and feel lucky that they have found such a hosting company. By offering more disk/storage space, the hosting companies will lure more customers and affiliates, affiliates in turn will gain more customers and the customers will be happy with the excess of space. Oh well, as long as everybody is happy…..

Collocation Hosting: It Pays To Know

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Collocation hosting is a relatively easy thing to find on the web. If this is the method that you plan to utilize for your business, it pays to take the time to compare companies as well as prices for several reasons. With more and more people turning to the web for help in locating their hosting solutions, there is little doubt that the right option is here. But, considering the cost of many collocation hosting services, you should invest some time in finding the right company. It takes only a few minutes.

Here are some things to consider when comparing collocation hosting companies:

• First and foremost, make sure that the hosting company you consider offers collocation hosting, not all do.

• Do they specialize in it? Many do not and therefore have other solutions to concentrate on as well. Your goal is to find the right balance of expertise and price.

• And, of course you will want to compare prices. It makes sense to. Make sure to look at monthly prices as well as quarterly and yearly. You may save money going with the longer option but if you don’t plan to use the service that long, then think again.

• Make sure to compare the details as well. You’ll want to find out what they can offer you compared to other hosting solution companies.

To be the right collocation hosting service for you, it should be one that meets or exceeds your needs as well as offers the best price for your budget.

There are also many information portals now devoted to the subject and we recommend reading about it at one of these. Try googling for “collocation hosting” and you will be surprised by the abundance of information on the subject. Alternatively you may try looking on Yahoo, MSN or even a decent directory site, all are good sources of this information.
