What You Should Know before Purchasing Bedding – Newsworthy

Friday, May 29th, 2009

A long time ago when I was a child, I recall that all the bedding in my house had to be white cotton ones. nowadays you find so much diversity in these that it becomes hard to choose. Bedding was never so beautiful with the vibrant colorings, prints and textures that are offered in today

Here are five steps that you can follow to purchase the perfect bedsheet for yourself.

Measure the sizing of your bed

You might think that all twin beds or king size beds measure the same, but sadly it is not so. Besides the top measurements, all the rest can be unusual depending on the brand. So make sure that you calculate all the measurements of your bed from top to bottom and also the thickness of the mattress you are using. Your bed could be shorter or taller than another one from the same maker. Measuring your bed will give you an idea of the sizing of your bed sheet before buying.

Decide from where to buy

Large departmental shops have a separate division for linen and bedding and offer branded sheets and in-house brands under the same roof. If you want something ethnic like embroidered bed sheets or luxurious ones there might be a store selling what you want close by. Another option is to shop online for the largest diversity. For those who still love their cotton fiber sheets, a discount shop is where you should travel to.

Learn about the thread count of bed sheets

A thread count refers to the number of threads carried in one square inch of the bedsheet in both directions of the weave. The label of the bedsheet has the thread count printed on it. A luxurious texture calls for a higher thread count. All The Same do not go for a very high thread count as it implies the singular threads are light and may not give the desired comfortable feeling. It is advisable that you go for a thread count in the range of 175 to around 300 for a soft sheet under you.

Decide on material for your bedsheet

A material that is sensibly priced and feels nice to sleep on is the one for you. If you prefer wrinkle-free sheets then go for cotton blends or you can buy basic cotton fabrics. Flannel is warm and can be used for winters. Then there is the all time preferred silk, satin or microfiber that provides luxury.

Follow wash tips

You need to know how the bed sheet has to be cleaned prior to buying one. Though silk bedding feel sensuous, they have to be dry cleaned each week. Can you promise to do this? The best way is to buy comfortable sheets that can be machine washed.

Once all the above factors are taken care of, you are sure to buy a nice and inexpensive bed sheet soon!

What Makes a Web Designer a Professional?

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Many people end up hiring either a friend or relative to get their web site done. Maybe it will be free, maybe you will get a discount. Either way, if your friend is a professional, it can be a great deal. If they are not (and sometimes even if they are), it may end up being more hassle than it is worth.

There is some blurry line out there that distinguishes professionals from amateurs. Not only is this line blurry, but it’s somewhat different for each person. I might consider someone an amateur, but you might consider them a professional.

The position of that line is based primarily on two things: Level of skills and level of conduct. Someone can be much stronger in one than another and still be considered a professional by many.

Let’s talk about two mythical web designers. Joe and Suzy Web design web pages for people. They gets paid for it. They makes a living from it. So far, we don’t know enough about Joe and Suzy to decide if we would consider them professionals.

Joe is a people person. He’s great at communicating. He is able to figure out exactly what a customer’s wants and needs are, and the customer knows that he understands. Joe’s actual design skills, while not great, are competent.

Suzy, on the other hand, is a fantastic designer. She feels more at home working on the computer than she does interacting with customers. While she is uncomfortable meeting with clients, she knows that it is necessary, and still acts very polite and tries to communicate well with clients.

Who is the more professional? If you were just looking at portfolios, you might say Suzy. If you were to meet with both designers, you might say Joe. But if both of them have an appropriate amount of skills in both areas, they’re both professionals. The difference of opinion generally comes in what is an appropriate amount of skills.

If you’re lucky, you get one person who’s great in both. Or one design firm that both Suzy and Joe work at.

Of course, running a good business enters into the equation also, but unless specific details are known by the client, that does not necessarily have an effect on perceived professionalism.

Beta Testing First Mobile Internet Satellite Broadband, Part II

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

We were the first beta testers of a Mobile Command Center with full Internet Access in 1999. Our mobile command center was also the first unit with WiFi and Internet Mobile Access.

The next generation of this system of Broadband Satellites was introduced in 2004. And the next wave of technology almost exists for the 10 times that speed. Looks like Moore’s Law may just apply to Satellites, however with the former practice tries by Motorola and the incompetence with the FCC we saw previously we may find that there are significant obstacle to over come still.

The biggest gripe back then was the Iridium pricing of $134.50 per month and the ridiculous cost of $1.34 per minute. Of course GlobalStar proves that they are worse at 150 per month and 1.39 per minute and International calls at $1.79. The cool thing about Inmarsat is that it is 20 years old and still has the 9.6 kbps data speed and sometimes you can get the 64 kbps. Inmarsat A is ancient and 18,000 ships have the maritime Global distress system aboard. GMDSS. If you look at most all commercial ships you will see the antennas on top that can run fax machines, Telephones and various data interfaces. Previously they ran below deck Telex systems. This system as you would guess is purely analog which has much advantages in weather conditions at sea. Inmarsat B is a whole different story with it’s digital technology, you can definitely get 64 KBPS all day long for broadcasting audio streams, video (a little jumpy), and voice and fax transmissions.

The pricing of data transmission due to speeds can save users up to 40% simply because it takes less time per minute to down and upload data. Of course the hardware runs about $ 10K, but for what it is that is not bad considering the original costs of data transmissions. Now here is the new deal Inmarsat C, two way data communications, terminals are portable and small, brief case style. Costs for terminals are only $4K approx. and everyone in the TV business has one or more. Inmarsat also has a system for voice, which needs only a little antenna of 9.3 or more inches and comes in a small dome. These were recently featured in Popular Mechanics in Nov 01. Trac Phone antennas for boats, RVs etc are expensive at $6,500 but work well. This is also known as the SatCom system mobile. It is a briefcase laptop system and is only 5 lbs. Costs only $3,000. People call it their brief case phone. It uses a SIM card for multiple users a system if you will remember never took off in the US like the smart card phones in Europe. Remember the PCS Phones had that little slide in cards, but they were too expensive for mass production in cellular technology. Inmarsat F77 is another innovation of 2001. ISDN and mobile packet data service capabilities. Delivering Fax, phone, voice and data. 64kbs, Absolutely and without a problem. Almost trouble free, this is nearly fully operational. We are almost there. This technology takes advantage of the B-GAN services that will be provided by the Inmarsat 4 being launched in 2004.

This will be cool. US Based ComSat Mobile, a division of Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications has announced it’s cooperation with Fleet F77 in the first half of 2002. Ah ha, now we are getting somewhere ? Says the people at Stratos, who are arrogant Canadians. Why is this so cool? It means that users can send and receive data but only be charged for the data sent and received. Serf the web in broadband from anywhere or even a remote log cabin on vacation, emails and web browsing for about $89.95 per month all in real time with about 2-3 second delays for distance or in another system the one we have now it will be a half second delay with even higher speeds (I will talk further about this in a minute). Internet based systems like this means we can track every ship, truck, terrorist school bus in the country real time, just like they now track all the aircraft as we saw on TV during the 9-11 act. We watched charts of the US with every single aircraft flying.

Imagine the system capabilities for efficiency, safety, storm and weather watching, and safety of our people. I am really liking this a lot and everyone in America will be safe and the President can have his missile defense program because we will be able to track everything that moves which is not cloaked and right now that is everything that we know about. We can even track stealth bombers by frequency disruption patterns from cell phones. We win. Guess what these systems have a built in safety switch so important transmissions get there first for instance a ship in high seas in trouble, DEA transmitting while profiling a smuggler, or mayday distress calls. So if you are surfing or on line sending emails it will be delayed until the safety priorities are taken care of and at those speeds and numbers of users and the forthcoming Craig McCaw’s Law I predict to replace Moore’s Law for satellites that will not be more than a nano second by 2005. In other words you will assume a solar flare or even a thunder cloud. Before we go much further let me show you the research places to go to;

Find Discount Grease Musical Tickets On The World Wide Web

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Grease’ is definitely 1 of the UK’s most renowned music shows, including numerous popular Hollywood motion pictures (including Grease’ with John Travolta & Oliva Newton John), many stage versions, and a music score that pretty much any person can sing to. Written by Warren Casey & Jim Jacobs, Grease’ at first opened in Chicago in nineteen seventy one with such breathtaking public reviews that the musical was promptly transferred originally to an off-Broadway place in New York, and then subsequently to the Broadhurst Theatre on Broadway – all this within twelve months of it’s original opening! The theatre show was so good that it had to be moved all over again to the Royale Theatre and later to the Majestic Theatre – purely to supply demand for shows & chairs. In nineteen seventy-three Grease’ began in London’s West End at the brand new London Theatre, with Richard Gere taking the key part Danny. Subsequent editions on the West End cast such famous celebrities as Tracey Ullman and Craig McLachlan, and the musical show has in effect ended up becoming 1 of the longest running musicals of the London theatre scene. London has numerous amazing shows in the West End. Buy discount tickets from www.lsbo.co.uk

Right through it’s distinguished history, Grease’ has remained as 1 of the most fashionable West End musical plays, having been revitalised four times since its first opening! Lately Grease’ has re-opened to the public at the Piccadilly Theatre and, judging by the normal sell-outs, it will definitely continue to run for a substantially long time to come. The existing London cast includes Danny Bayne as Danny, Nicola Brazil as Sandy, Natalie Langston as Rizzo and Stuart Ramsay as Kenickie. Grease’ musical ticket are obtainable from the Internet for as much as £25.00 (for a single seat in the Grand Circle); even though it’s astute to reserve ahead of time if you are considering to visit as a big party.

Dating Created to Last

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Now, I couldn’t characterize myself as terribly satisfied living alone and not crack a smile. But, I’m not uncomfortable with the reality of life, either. I only mention it on the blogosphere as an appetizing detail setting up the story I am about to explain in grand style.

This time last week I met for coffee with Stacey, pondering about joining a Dallas Singles dating service. Today, I type to the blogosphere as a fully satisfied member of the matchmaking service. For real, it’s true. It’s great! If you know me at all, you’re probably thinking, “You got some ’splainin to do, Lucy!”

Well, I looked at this Great Expectations Dating site and can really get behind their approach. They’re for the honest singles who care enough to know dating isn’t a game.

Because I’d never been interested in whatever it is that serial daters (ie: everyone I know) call “The Dating Experience.” I faced it more than anyone should. Each night readers ask, “Are you two serious yet?” and “Just get out there and date him!”

“Baloney!” I banter right back, without missing a beat. “Not after that last blind date you set me up on.”

“Not true,” they level with me. “That’s just an excuse for your cynicism.”

That’s just my friend (she’s the best) :-P Sandy Wilson. She sets the best ideas to my mind to set me straight. Caring souls never fail for fresh advice. She made a good point, and I thank her for it.

Back to the theme of this essay. As I selected from thousands of quality singles for my first Great Expectations date, a revelation hit me honest. Over the last year, I hadn’t held too many figurative great expectations for dating and myself in the adventurous winding course of being alive. It’s good to be single, specifically if you use the freedom to date. Having great expectations does wonders on a cynics social life.

The Benefits and Disadvantages of Val D’Isere in the Savoie Region of France

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

One of Europe’s most celebrated skiing towns, Val d’Isre features 471 kilometres of marked runs. The winter season begins during November and ends in the start of May. The high altitude purpose built French village provides for all your needs. The resort extends through the vale from La Daille as far as Le Fornet with the focus on Val Village. This cluster of pretty buildings contain dapper dress shops most of which have appeared since the village was voted for the Winter Olympics in 1992.

Split into 3 different parts the town has ample trails for all levels of skiers and is great for luxury ski holidays. It has a fab historical snow record, the domain is massively fashionable amongst pro boarders and motorway skiing intermediates, but you don’t have to be especially adventurous to love what’s on offer. One can easily see how come numerous British are pulled in to the village, with its varied nightlife and the range of entertainment on offer, but the near proximity of Tignes enables you to head out to less frantic areas if it all begins to get all too much.

Pros

A good night-life in France. Everyone talks English. Quick entrance to both Val d’Isre and Tignes collectively known as the Espace Killy ski area. There is lots of traffic and while there are frequent buses during the daytime, devoted party animmals had better aim to be within walking distance from the town.

Cons

Expensive. Busy and very fashionable with English clientle, so not for holiday makers anticipating a classic French town to savour a calming trip. Many lifts can shut in windy weather. A few challenging blue and green slopes.

Realistic Dreams

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

The wish to have or be something, especially one that seems difficult to achieve is an innate desire in every one of us. The quest of all mankind, whether it is admitted or not, is for a life of significance.

For any youth to live a life of significance he or she needs a focus to achieve his or her dreams or goals in life but many who have eyes perish for lack of vision and sometimes we need to be blind before we can truly see. Most young people are dreamers, living tin their dreams and forgetting that a dream is not something that you make up from, but something that wakes you up. Some sleep while they live; others live what they dream.

Someone once said, “Almost the whole world is asleep. Only a handful of people are awake, and they live in a state of constant amazement”. Awake people are passionate about living and experiencing life on this planet of wonder – - planet created by an act of wonder. We need awake people to stimulate us and to draw us out of dearness. The best dreams come to pass when you are awake.

Awake people are interesting and sometimes energetic. They are the kind of people you just like to be around. They seem to sense the awesomeness of life and they have a tendency to make it contagious. The reason many people fail is not for lack of vision, but for lack of resolve and resolve is born out of counting the cost.

Leonardo da Vinci who became one of the greatest artists in the world, some claim the greatest, exclaimed: “oh God, you sell us everything for the price of an effort”. He was an illegitimate son; brought up by his father’s family and thought to be of no account. The made him all the more determined to prove himself by his own efforts; life responded to his demands.

George Bernard Shaw once said, ” some men see things as they are, and ask why, but I dream of things that never were and ask why not”. Is there a dream you have had, is there a vision in your heart, stay awake and work earnestly to achieving it. The bigger your demand on life, the bigger the response. Life itself sets no limits.

Goethe expressed it in this say:

“Are you in earnest! Seize this very minute:

What you can do, or dream you can, begin it!

Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.

Only engage and then the mind gets heated:

Begin, and then the work will be completed”

Don’t Become A Disgruntled Beauty Representative

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Just about everyone has heard a personal story about a new beauty representative ordering a ship load of products she couldn’t afford, even taking out personal loans and expecting a quick return on her product. Frustration set in when sells didn’t come quick enough, her husband became angry about the investment and she blamed everyone else for the products she now stores in her garage.

LADIES…. Mary Kay, Avon, Jafra and other home businesses are not GET RICH QUICK PLANS, regardless of what you’re told by the representative that is trying to recruit you into the business. Unfortunately a small hand-full of recruiters don’t always represent the company or conduct business in an ethical manner. A potential beauty representative should be counseled on minimum inventory requirements and other inventory options without making her believe success is only obtainable with a large inventory purchase.

There are many beauty representatives that are very successful rather quickly, but not everyone has the same drive and determination. Before becoming a beauty representative that requires inventory set realistic goals to determine exactly why you’re entering into the business and determine what you want from the business and how you’ll accomplish the task. Realistically think about the inventory options and determine if an initial investment before accumulating customers or orders is feasible for you, if not consider hosting a party or having someone host it for you to meet the minimum inventory requirements.

I originally became a beauty representative to socialize with other women and a large inventory was not an option for me, so a friend hosted a party which allowed me to place my first order. As a result, I wasn’t stressed over the financial investment. I didn’t worry that my products weren’t selling quick enough and some of my customers became good friends.

Every one purchases the same starter kit for their business of choice and you will only get out of the business what you put in. Customers don’t just fall in your lap, relatives aren’t always receptive of your endeavors and you are the only one that knows what you can afford in inventory. If you’re unsure about your decision to become a beauty representative attend a few meetings first, shadow your recruiter on a few parties, talk to other beauty representatives about the ups and downs of their business before deciding how much to spend on initial inventory. If you have the finances and the potential customers go for it, but if you don’t have much contact with many women and you don’t know if this business is going to work for you, have a party first and go from there. You can still be a successful beauty representative starting with minimum inventory. I believe the bottom line for everyone involved should be to build a strong team, which will in return produce income for all involved.

Exercising common sense with the financial aspect of the business along with having fun and loving what you do will prevent you from becoming a disgruntled beauty representative with a ship load of products in your garage.

Pamper yourself, have fun and follow your dream!

Consumers, Legislators, and Internet Service and Hosting Providers Wage War On Spam

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Nobody likes it. It’s a wonder anybody still does it. It’s what makes some people so leery of ever embracing email and it’s what has lead to so many others opening up secondary, “junk” email accounts. As such, it’s also the bane of ISPs and hosting providers everywhere. As of the writing of this article, spam has constituted almost 50% of the content of people’s email inboxes and internet users, ISPs, and hosting providers have just about had enough.

By 2007 it is expected that, if no further action is taken against spammers, it will make up closer to 70% of the content of our inboxes. With arrests made, fines paid, and (in some cases) jail time pending, you’d think incidents of spam would finally be on the decline, but we have no such luck.

The first piece of spam was distributed in 1978 (back when the internet was called the ARPAnet and long before the days of competing consumer hosting providers). The first piece of anti-spam legislation was passed in 1997, in Nevada. Other states, like Arizona, have since followed suit. Most anti-spam laws today dictate that:

1. Any unsolicited email must indicate with the letters “ADV” in the Subject line that it is an advertisement.

2. The sender and recipient not in any way be obfuscated. In other words, it must be perfectly clear who sent the email and to whom.

3. A working “Unsubscribe” link must exist somewhere in the body of the email.

California, however, seems to be taking the war on spam a step further, designing a bill that permits consumers, internet service and hosting providers and the state to sue spammers for $500 per piece of spam.

Virginia currently boasts the harshest anti-spam law, banning automated spam tools and forged headers/footers entirely, and punishing offenders who either send 10,000 messages in a 24 span of time or earn $1,000 from unsolicited ads with up to 5 years in prison.

Internet service and hosting providers aren’t waiting for laws to curb the insidious threat to their livelihoods, taking charge of the spam pandemic in their own ways. Consider Earthlink, who matches all incoming emails against the email addresses in the recipients’ address books. If a message is sent from an email address not included, the recipient is notified of the attempted delivery and given several options for how they’d like the message to be dealt with, both in the moment and in the future.

By this method, Earthlink and other internet service providers and hosting providers with similar “challenge-response” systems in place obtain that very approval from their clients for delivering each email message that spammers, by definition, lack. Though some consumers may be irritated by having to actively participate in the unending process of eliminating spam from their inboxes, the method itself is extremely successful in reducing incidents of spam, in some cases, to almost zero.

Other hosting providers are taking the issue to court. In response to 8 million customer complaints, America Online (AOL) – which reported that in a single 24-hour period in March of last year its email filters had rid users’ inboxes of 1 billion pieces of spam – has filed at least 5 separate lawsuits against spammers.

Hopefully spammers are less invulnerable than the cockroaches you might say they emulate. In the meantime, it’ll be up to legislators, email clients, internet service and web hosting providers, and consumers like us to stand vigilant against them. While waiting for the courts and the government to do what they can to take care of the problem, you should take it upon yourself, at the very least, to make sure that both your internet service provider and, if you run one or more websites, your hosting providers include free spam prevention technology for their customers.
