To Expand Your HD Monitor Use an HDMI Switch

High definition television has generated our desires to expand our televiewing by allowing other HD sources to become involved in our TV options. Cable setup boxes, HD DVD players and satellite boxes are using HD technology more and more. Thus, we need to be able to attach their offerings to our own television sets.

That is where the HDMI switch comes into the picture. This switch allows its user to bring the offerings of other HDMI sources into one television. These switches come in various sizes and with various options. It is best to select one with at least three inputs and one output. That is because at least two inputs will be used by your DVD player and cable or satellite receiver. That leaves only one other input for other sources to attach to your TV. Five inputs would provide more future input options.

The HDMI switch enables more of a future for your HD TV. If you ever want to add HD video games or other HD selections, you will surely need more than the two ports your TV has as standard equipment. Otherwise, you will need to be unplugging your DVD player or other equipment to make room for the things you want to add.

When purchasing a switch for your HDMI, some things to give careful consideration are expandability and HDCP transparency, so that any HDCP data can be passed between your television and the source. The power source of your switch should be independent of your television power source. An external source of power should always be used for the switch.

Too, power-saving devices can help with the cost of operating the HDMI switch and its components. You do not want to expand the cost of operating your HD monitor any more than necessary.
