Slow Rolling
Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010Poker is a cutthroat game-you’re constantly deceiving your poker online opponents, you’re playing mind games, heck, you’re trying to take everybody else’s money! You’re playing to make money, not friends. Although your aim isn’t to walk away from a game with a new best pal, there is a certain respect among poker players, and with that respect comes a certain expectation of etiquette. You are playing a tactical game of nerves and perception-skilled players generally hold each other in a high regard, if not an amicable one. Certain things can destroy that amicability, things like slow rolling, for example.
Slow rolling isn’t illegal, but it’s a great way to turn an entire pokertable against you. Slow rolling is when a player wins a hand at the showdown, but delays turning his cards over, acting like he’s lost the hand. Usually, the slow roller will wait until the loser thinks that he’s won the hand, then he shows his cards and rakes in the pot.
It’s a real dirtbag move to let your opponent think that he’s won, and then dash his hopes with your cards. Few things feel worse than losing a hand at the showdown, and rubbing in someone’s face is pretty despicable. Remember this next time you play poker online.
